City Gym Boys is an elite team of natural bodybuilders from the inner city dedicated to mentoring young men and women on the lifelong benefits of fitness and exercise.
City Gym Boys was founded in 1997 by owner Charles La Salle to reach young men and women in the New York City area. About Charles LaSalle
Charles LaSalle believes urban youth must be taught that physical exercise and education are the keys to success and survival in a modern world.
Charles La Salle is an award winning bodybuilder, certified fitness expert, and motivational speaker who has appeared on local and national television. LaSalle is the founder and president of City Gym Boys(CGB), an innovative fitness company established in 1997 to promote total fitness to youth in the urban context.
Under the leadership of Mr. LaSalle, CGB’s urgent mission is to eliminate the illnesses and conditions associated with obesity, particularly in young people of color. LaSalle, who has won over 20 bodybuilding titles, is sensitive to the current obesity epidemic plaguing inner city youth. To address this growing problem, LaSalle has directed the efforts of CGB to provide mentoring through stirring up interest in natural bodybuilding as a means of attracting urban youth to a lifelong fitness and exercise practice.. LaSalle ‘s unique strategy works as hundreds of young people have joined with CGB in making getting into shape a top priority. LaSalle’s vision and mission goes beyond physical training and body building. Under his direction, the CGB have moved past the walls of the gym to provide, fitness consultation, conferences and workshops to several agencies and organizations serving low to moderate income communities — communities where the co-morbidities of obesity, i.e., type II diabetes, high blood pressure and cancers run rampant. And LaSalle doesn’t stop here. Through CGB and key partnerships, LaSalle intends to implement culturally-sensitive, community-wide fitness awareness programs and eventually takes the CGB message to national. To date, CGB has grown to over 30 committed members who faithfully assist LaSalle in providing an array of fitness awareness programs, physical education classes, individual, group and corporate fitness/training workshops. Using LaSalle’s principles, CGB customizes its programs to meet the unique needs of those individuals or agencies seeking to improve overall physical fitness and increase optimal wellbeing. LaSalle and the CGB provide weekly mentorship and youth program support to Boys & Girls Club of Harlem and Full Circle Life Enrichment Center, Inc. SuiDar Productions, and Rise World in the Bronx, LaSalle has a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing from Fashion Institute of Technology (F.I.T.).
